All in the Family
After the song, Howard took his brother and father to his study for cigars. Virginia remained as hostess for the ladies.
“Penny looks more and more like Howard.” Penelope’s grandmother was proud of her sons, Howard and William.
Penny’s Aunt Ruth tugged her little boy’s arm. “Sit still, Charley.” The five-year-old was climbing the walls.
Not Virginia’s Penny; she was a lady. She did look just like Howard, and why not? He was her uncle.
“Another biscuit, Charley?” Virginia asked.
Nothing Ruth needed to know. Or Howard, for that matter.

Thanks, Mandie. I’ve been contemplating trying to write a murder mystery so have been mulling over motives in my mind and how they might be hidden. This picture popped up at just the right time.
Uhoh. Now I’ve given away the ending!

Haha Murder mystery?! I love it. I’m in for that tale when you get it worked out. Even as I wrote that, I thought, really? What genres don’t I like? There are not very many. You’ll lose me on romance, but that’s about it. I even like romance as part of a story, but as its own genre I usually need something more.

Yea, I’d be up for a romance, too, as long as it had a plot, great characters, and awesome writing. Sadly, that’s not usually the case. 😦

You’re right. There are times when a subject is brought into a genre I already like and I’ll think, “oh, I’ll go along for the ride because I like this genre but this subject is of no interest to me,” and then I’ll be captivated by the subject that is woven into the story.
There can be a mastery of writing that transcends genre that can pull you in where other pieces from that same genre have no appeal.

A bit of family scandal. The truth will come out in the end, would love to read that scene! Nice take.

A little family secret, I see, but secrets get found out sooner or later. Wonder how that’s going to play out.
Nice take on the prompt, Kecia 🙂
