At Each Full Moon
Eyes closed, Dalton sniffed. Pine scent mingled with sweat and…wet dog hair. He uncurled from the fetal position and blinked in the light of a dewy morning in the woods. The odors came from his skin, naked and trembling in the cold. He checked his fingernails to confirm. Blood, bits of raw flesh. His gut wrenched.
He moaned and dragged himself to his feet. He found east by the rising sun. Alone and lost, he had to get home without clothes and, somehow, conceal the curse—again—from Brittney. She wouldn’t be happy when he bought another pair of shoes.

Oooo A werewolf tale. How exciting. 🙂 I’m curious how he would explain his nakedness to Brittney. She must be pretty understanding. Haha

Hehe. He may be hoping the back door is unlocked.
Thanks for reading. 🙂

I’ve written about married werewolves too, except the spouses knew.

I read some of that. I thought of yours when I finished.
I’m writing a short story that has a werewolf element in it, and I wanted to work on a bit of backstory support. The other story doesn’t have a werewolf, just a “cure” for lycanthropy. In any case, the connection was the Wildwood in my other story with the pine trees here.
My first thought on seeing this prompt was the scent of pines, so that’s where I started. 🙂
Thank you for reading.

Oh my gosh! Every time he gets new shoes he turns into a werewolf? Great story!

Hehe. Not what I was thinking, but maybe it seemed that way!
I was trying to imagine the real consequences of turning into a werewolf once a month and figured he probably lost his shoes occasionally (along with clothes) and had to buy new ones.
Thanks for you comment. I need to be careful with my words or lack of!

Now we will be worried about fellers who buy new shoes each month😉 Tell him to leave some old gear including shoes hidden Near home. Loved the description of how he smelt his environment upon returning to being human

I think they leave clothes in both tv series, “Being Human” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” I haven’t read widely in werewolf lore, although I did a little research this morning for my other story. Apparently, although werewolves go back clear to the first century, the transformation at a full moon only shows up in the modern age.

Nice storytelling. The reader could feel his animal senses.

Oh, I loved this one! Though I do wonder, how does he explain the nakedness? =)

i was tickled by the thought that shoes were his biggest worry, lovely tale. “He found east by the rising sun” – I thought this was the most poetic line.

Thank you. I try to do horror but often fall prey to a humorous aside. I’m glad you enjoyed.

How exciting. I wonder how long he can conceal his secret? It’s interesting how one photo can bring out lots of perspectives.

Not very long, I would imagine. He seems to be a rather bumbling werewolf.
Thank you.
