Entering the windmill, Leliana and Alistair climbed the stairs. Wooden steps creaked under armored boots. Steel weapons rattled. Grinding machinery clanked. The cloying scent of grease filled their noses. Glistening motes of chaff drifted on light. Shoving aside a grain bag and a box, they found the iron-bound door locked.
“Do you have it?” Alistair asked.
Leliana stared. “What?”
“The signet ring Bann Teagan gave us to open the secret passage to Redcliffe Castle.”
“He gave you the ring. Did you lose it?” Her baby blues widened.
Blushing, Alistair checked his pockets again.
“Alistair…!”

A rather disappointing end to their big adventure! One can only hope he stuck it on his finger for safe keeping 🙂

We can hope. With Alistair…who knows what the dope did with it.

If they dynamite the door, I hear that the magic collapses the passage. They had better go back and find the ring

Good thing they didn’t have the dwarf, Oghren, along. He might have done just that.
Thanks for stopping by, Michael.

Ha ha! Great one… perhaps she should have kept hold of it. I wonder how they’ll get there now?

I really enjoyed the visual images you created in the first paragraph. I could just see the “Glistening motes of chaff drifted on light.”

This sounds like just about every trip with my husband. Sometimes I want to sew all his pockets close. Very fun take on the prompt.

Ha! Alistair, I”d be careful, man. If you don’t handle Leliana just right, she’s crazy-scary!
