Lordaeron
Daphne woke to cold pervading her bones and lifted her lids on absolute darkness. Even deeper, the silence. Her fingers twitched with reanimation. Weak, she rolled to crawl in the dark until butting against a step.
Climbing the slabs taxed her heart, arrhythmically tapping. Rising, she grasped an iron ring and pushed a door on whining hinges.
Cringing from the moon, Daphne shielded her eyes. Spilling between brittle-boned fingers, light betrayed her flesh, plagued and tattered. Daphne wailed and withered to her knees.
Her twice-charged heart fluttered feebly. Henry…? Or were those vows annulled by death do us part?

I don’t know what’s going on but I sure know I am glad not to be Daphne.

I think death do us part is a valid excuse to get out of it for Henry… but maybe they can re-vow

As I wrote this, I wondered if Henry had anything to do with her death in the first place.
Thanks for stopping by with a comment.

Coming back from the dead is such a bother. And yes, marriage vows are broken at death, so once you die, you come back unattached.

Decidedly unpleasant, indeed. Thanks for your comment, James.

I hoped the idea of reanimation could stand on its own, but wasn’t sure. It definitely acquires more depth if you’re familiar with the Warcraft universe.
Thanks for reading, Iain.

Scary. Even scarier for her when she sees how much has changed since she was put in the crypt. A Rip Van Winkle moment.

Thanks so much, Christine. It feels great when people see my story like I saw it.

I’m not familiar with the game, but the act of reanimation is universal enough to give your story meaning, context, and creep.

I think her man ‘done her wrong’. Hope she gets out of this.

It might be fun to write a whole story with this as a beginning. How did she die? And…what is she going to do about it?

Glad I’m not Henry… seems like they may have unfinished business…

*waves in recognition* I have to confess I have mainly played Alliance in my WoW days however I did have a super Undead Priest. It was the most thrilling re-birth.

Yay, a player! I started Alliance, but switched to Horde pretty hard core. Undead was the last race I experienced and loved the opening tale. I’d never known! Thanks for commenting.
